Nursing education faces reduced funds,
faculty shortage, and diminishing clinical sites. The decreased supply
of nurses is coupled with an increased demand due to needs of the
aging population, consumer expectations for qualified caregivers in
all settings, technological advances in treatment, increased patient
acuity, and new nursing roles.
The shortage will be longer and more
severe than other shortages due to an aging nursing workforce. It is
critical that we provide leadership for accessible, efficient, high
quality nursing education and work at the national and state level to
be part of the solution.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why is my support important?
Your support enables us to attract and
retain the highest caliber of faculty, students and programming
through student scholarships, resources for bringing cutting edge
advances that expose our students and faculty to the field’s leading
scholars. Help us to continue providing the quality of education
expected of a nationally recognized institution serving the best and
brightest minds of the state of Illinois.
Why is unrestricted giving important?
An unrestricted gift is simply a gift
with no restrictions from the donor on how it is to be used. Such
gifts allow the Dean flexibility in determining how to use funding
where it can have the greatest impact, address priorities and bring
immediate benefits to the college as a whole by supporting:
Program initiatives
Classrooms and facilities
Faculty and curricular development
Faculty recruitment
How can I double or even triple my
gift?
Hundreds of companies, large, small,
local or national, match their employee’s charitable donations. You
can check with your - or your spouse’s - Human Resources Department to find
out if the company matches gifts. This is a great way to increase your
gift to the College.
How will my gift be recognized?
The College of Nursing donors will be
acknowledged in the Annual Report. Donors of $1,000 or more annually
are enrolled in the St. Francis Society and lifetime cumulative giving
is recognized on the donor wall in the Medical Center.
