539 Seminar in Advanced Care of the Child and Family

This course examines theoretical and empirical concepts related to health beliefs, health promotion, and risk reduction for infants, children, women, and families. The advanced practice nurse will gain practical knowledge and demonstrate application in the management of health care needs of this diverse population. Focus is on the role of the clinical nurse specialist in the changing health care environment. Principles from healthy People 2010, epidemiology, biostatistics, and cultural awareness guide comparisons of groups. Strategies and benefits of health promotion interventions are emphasized. Prerequisites: 500, 504, 508, 512, 516, 522 and 526 or consent of instructor. 3 S.H.
