Family Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (FP/MHNP)
Description of Program
The Family Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (FP/MHNP) option is a 46 credit hour program that prepares the baccalaureate nurse to provide care to those with mental health problems and mental disorders. The FP/MHNP program focuses on social and psychological development of individuals and families using assessment, diagnostic techniques, pharmacological management, and therapeutic theories for a wide spectrum of patients including children, adolescents, adults, and older adults. The graduate student in the FP/MHNP option will demonstrate the ability to work in a variety of settings including mental health clinics, community mental health facilities- service centers, ambulatory care settings, private group practices, hospital/medical centers and emergency and urgent mental health care areas and colleges of nursing.
Upon successful completion of this program, the graduate will be eligible to apply for ANCC certification as a Family Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner.
