Description of Program
The Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (P/MHNP) option is a 46 credit hour program that prepares the baccalaureate nurse to provide care to those with mental health problems and mental disorders. The P/MHNP program focuses on social and psychological development of individuals and families using assessment, diagnostic techniques, pharmacological management, and therapies for a wide spectrum of patients including children, adolescents, adults, and older adults. The graduate student in the FP/MHNP option will demonstrate the ability to work in a variety of settings including mental health clinics, community mental health facilities- service centers, ambulatory care settings, private group practices, hospital/medical centers and emergency and urgent mental health care areas and colleges of nursing.
Upon successful completion of this program, the graduate will be eligible to apply for certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner.
