What makes our Student Finance Office different?

What makes our Student Finance Office different is the individual attention we are able to give every student. This past year, some sort of financial aid was received by 91% of our graduate students and 87% of the undergrads.

Unlike larger institutions, we don’t just give you forms to fill out. Because of our deep roots in the community we help our students access a wide variety of outside resources, from public and private agencies as well as generous individuals, clubs and organizations.

Within OSF Saint Francis Medical Center there is a unique program we call MEEP, short for Modified Education Employment Program.  If you’re willing to make a commitment to staying and working as a bedside nurse at the Medical Center (as so many students want to do) you may be eligible for $4000 of financial aid each semester. After you’ve fulfilled your commitment, that debt is totally forgiven. It’s an incredible opportunity.

At this current time of economic crisis, we know more and more students are experiencing financial troubles…but that means we just need to be very creative and use every possible resource. We are deeply committed to helping students get into school, stay in school, and achieve their dreams.

Testimonials | Misty"My educational and career dreams are coming true at Saint Francis Medical Center College of Nursing!  When I started working as a CNA, I found that my true calling was in health care. I enjoy helping my patients to feel better and adding a little sunshine to their lives.  I knew I wanted to become a nurse.

I am raising a family, working two jobs and going to school full time!  It can all get a little overwhelming at times but graduation is in sight and the support for my success at the College of Nursing has been amazing!

The professors are engaging, encouraging and invested in students becoming the best nurses possible.  My classmates are wonderful and rally to help each other just like an extended family.  The Student Finance Office has had a tremendous impact on my success.  They have helped me to find opportunities that I otherwise would have missed out on – community resources, scholarships, MEEP.  I am so humbled and appreciative for all the help provided by those who believe in me.

If I can succeed at Saint Francis Medical Center College of Nursing, you can too!  It simply requires hard work, determination, and inspiration to make your nursing dreams come true. My children have inspired me to reach for the dream and the College of Nursing has provided the way."

Testimonials | Kelsey"I had always heard good things about Saint Francis Medical Center College of Nursing.  When it came time to choose a nursing school, this was the only place I felt I would be able to reach my fullest potential as a future nurse.  I, along with many of my family members, work at OSF and witness the hospital’s mission of serving with the greatest care and love.  Seeing this mission being carried out every single day proved to me that Saint Francis Medical Center College of Nursing was the right choice.

The College of Nursing definitely holds true to its reputation.  I have never seen such caring and supportive faculty.  You can tell they want you to succeed and the help they offer is above and beyond.

Trying to figure out how to pay for nursing school on my own was a stress that I didn’t even want to think of, which is why I am so thankful to have been awarded MEEP (OSF Saint Francis Medical Center Education Employment Program).  Every bit of money helps, and this was truly an amazing opportunity to receive!"

Testimonials | Brice

"Originally, I chose Saint Francis Medical Center College of Nursing because of the practical benefits: close to home, not having to travel miles and miles for clinical, and knowing others that had gone through the program. Turns out, what I thought were major reasons are now minor details. The College has so much more to offer than what I would have expected.

The instructors (whether in the classroom at the lab or on clinical) want you to succeed. They get to know you as more than just a student, are willing to go out of their way to help you understand a concept and push you to be the best you can be. The staff devotes their time to helping you work out the details of college so you can focus on the schooling. Whether that be the student finance department taking care of loans and payments or the housekeepers giving you a smile as you walk past in the hall. I can honestly say that every encounter I've had with members of the SFMC-CON team has been nothing but positive and professional.

On top of all that, SFMC-CON also offers many scholarships. Last semester, I was blessed to be awarded MEEP (OSF Modified Education Employment Program). Being selected for MEEP means I can spend less time working towards paying off tuition and more time learning how to become the nurse I want to be. What an awesome opportunity!

When I look back on my life years from now, I'm sure there are things I will wish I could go back and change but choosing Saint Francis Medical Center College of Nursing will not be one of them. Call the College, take a tour with the recruiter, ask students what they think, talk to the instructors, see what the Student Finance Office can do for you. Just step out and do it, get started. Saint Francis is the place to be."

Testimonials | Mackenzie"I love Saint Francis Medical Center College of Nursing because of the great learning opportunities I have had so far. All of the instructors want to see you succeed and are always approachable if you need help. The smaller class size allows you to connect better with the instructors and the other students. Honestly, I get very anxious and nervous at times. I especially feel this way when on clinical or doing lab techniques. The instructors will take the extra time to make sure you feel more comfortable with what you know. They give you that boost of confidence you need to better your skills. Everyone is so positive and makes you realize it is a learning experience and that everything takes practice.

I chose this college because I had heard such great things from past students. I've heard many people around the hospital say that they can really tell what nurses went to Saint Francis College of Nursing because of their knowledge as well as their caring attitude. I hope to be that type of nurse one day. I am passionate about nursing because I want a career that will challenge me AND be rewarding.

This will be my second Bachelor's degree. I don't have a lot of money to put toward more education so I am beyond grateful to have received the MEEP Scholarship as well as the President's Scholarship. I have to take out loans that I will pay back once I graduate, but getting these scholarships have cut my tuition payments in half! Since I hoped to work at the Medical Center after graduation, MEEP (OSF Modified Education-Employment Program) was really the best of both worlds. I feel so blessed to have been given this opportunity."

Testimonials | Julie"I love attending Saint Francis Medical Center College of Nursing because I am being challenged in ways I could never have imagined - to reach within myself to learn more, to become better and to care for others without limits. During my J1 semester we learned about nursing excellence and how to become an excellent nurse, and that begins with becoming an excellent student. SFMCCON has become home to me and the students, staff and faculty have become a second family; this is what makes our school truly excellent!

Being an older, nontraditional student I juggle family, school, and a part time job - at times it can be overwhelming and exhausting. Faculty have been so incredibly encouraging and helpful and have gone to great lengths to help me achieve my goals. Clinical experiences teach us something new every day and the opportunity to have been selected for the OSF summer extern program and work with incredible nurses have reinforced my passion to become an oncology nurse!

I could not have made it through school without scholarships. I have received the CON Scholarship, the Ada Oetgen Memorial Scholarship and MEEP (OSF Modified Education Employment Program) which allowed me to work less during school and focus on my studies and my family. These generous scholarships make me feel proud of my own hard work and incredibly blessed to go to such a wonderful school that believes in investing in their students and future employees. I cannot imagine attending nursing school anywhere else."

Testimonials | Cody"I wanted to become a nurse because I enjoy interacting with patients and caring for their every need; I wanted to help others! I chose SFMC-CON because I had heard great things about the program and I wanted to be a part of the OSF team. The professors are devoted to helping me as a student exceed academically and clinically. I also really enjoy getting to know and work with my peers in the classroom and on the units.

Attending SFMCCON full time and working part time is not an easy task. Being awarded the MEEP scholarship was a true blessing to me, financially and by helping me take further steps towards my career as a nurse. As a MEEP recipient I will work for a great institution once I graduate. MEEP not only helps me pay for my tuition, but also gave me experience in the applying and interviewing process, similar to what I will go through when applying for a job. For any prospective student who wants to attend SFMCCON, I encourage you to study hard and work hard towards your goal of being a nurse. SFMCCON is an amazing college with awesome faculty who have a deep compassion for teaching and helping students become professional Registered Nurses."

Testimonials | Taylor"What I love about Saint Francis Medical Center College of Nursing is how devoted the instructors, administration and support staff are to the students’ success. Everyone is always lending a helping hand to make the transition from student to nurse as smooth as possible! The teachers have an open door policy and are always making themselves available to us. The student finance office sends reminders about scholarships; and administration and staff always keep us up to date on what’s happening around the school. It’s nice to feel like a part of a big family here at the College of Nursing!

I am passionate about helping others. There’s nothing better than going home after a clinical day knowing that you were able to provide a patient with the “greatest care and love!” I’ve always wanted to work at a “big” hospital and from my very first clinical experience I knew that OSF Saint Francis was where I wanted to work. So when MEEP was offered to me, I couldn’t say no! It feels great to know that I have a plan, a great nursing education, lowered tuition cost, and a job opportunity after graduation!"

Testimonials | Aletha"I love Saint Francis Medical Center College of Nursing because we carry out our mission statement “to serve with the greatest care and love” everyday. Long before I finished my pre-requisites or enrolled, the College reached out to me with encouragement and responses to my questions in a way no other school had ever done before. I absolutely love the Student Finance Office because when I have a problem I can talk to someone and receive help in resolving the issue. Being awarded scholarships and MEEP has been a blessing! On clinical, patients are truly treated equally and with care regardless of their financial status. The faculty give good feedback on assignments and when the students feel something should be changed, the administrators listen. More recently I was amazed at how many people in the college that I have never been introduced to know my name. That shows a commitment to the students by the administrators to get to know us and how welcome we are at the college. Everyone is treated like how we all would want to be treated."

Testimonials | Alex"What I love most about Saint Francis Medical Center College of Nursing is that the school is helping me achieve a dream I have wanted since grade school. I’ve grown up with family members who work for OSF Saint Francis and they have always told me "You'd be a natural as a nurse!” Now I am a step closer to achieving those two letters (RN)  behind my name and I'll be happy that I have received that title from the College of Nursing.

On the first day of classes, the professors welcome you with open arms. They encourage you to work with others, ask them for help with their "open door" policy, and to never feel as if you are the only one with a specific trouble or problem.

The smiling faces and positive attitudes of the Student Finance Office staff immediately make you feel "welcomed" and "at home." Here's a group of people specifically dedicated to work with your financial situation and help you achieve your educational goals. I had a major setback before entering my second semester of my junior year, which caused me to have to re-consider ways to support myself through college. The finance office worked with me to find resources that would help me continue to go to school full-time and work my two jobs! I am really honored to be selected as a recipient of the Modified Education Employment Program (MEEP). Without this support I would have had to give up my dream of being a Registered Nurse so I owe the College of Nursing the ultimate thanks and gratitude."

Testimonials | Kaitlyn"Wow! Saint Francis Medical Center College of Nursing …there is so much I could say! I will never forget the feeling of overflowing joy I felt the day I received my acceptance letter. From applying to SFMCCON to almost graduating, I have nothing negative to say, and that is the truth! Ten years ago my sister graduated from the program and only had a positive report when I expressed my interest in the college to her. The college itself is an amazing experience, as is the hospital. This is why receiving MEEP (Modified Education-Employment Program) has been such an incredible opportunity. Not only does it provide the financial support necessary to take the burden of school loans off of my shoulders, but along with it comes the chance to work at one of the most established and respectable hospitals around! Nursing school has been such a rewarding education experience, and I would not trade it for any other career path. I am not trying to be cliché when I say that all of the staff at Saint Francis Medical Center College of Nursing is there to help and be there for you no matter what the situation may be. I consider myself extremely blessed to call myself a student at Saint Francis Medical Center College of Nursing where the knowledge and experience I have gained has exceed my expectations. The relationships being built are ones I will carry with me throughout my life."

Testimonials | Erin

"I chose Saint Francis Medical Center College of Nursing because I work with amazing nurses that have graduated from Saint Francis Medical Center College of Nursing! They are compassionate, caring, and advocate for their patients every time. I wanted to be able to care for my patients just like they care for their patients everyday.

I really appreciate the smaller class sizes and the College staff. Every single teacher truly cares about each and every student! They do not want to see anyone fail and are willing to help. Your teachers are like your cheerleaders! All the student support service departments are wonderful as well! I do not think I could say more positive things about them! Every person is willing to assist you, answer your questions and want to help you to reach your dreams.

I had completed two other degrees prior to attending Saint Francis College of Nursing and had exhausted several of my resources for financial help. I am very thankful to be a recipient of the MEEP program, otherwise I do not know if I would have been able to complete the program. It is such a relief to not have to be concerned about how I am going to pay for college. It is great to be able to tell people that not only do I go to a great school but they have helped me to reach my dreams by supporting me financially."

Testimonials | Nina"The faculty and staff have been wonderful. They teach you, guide you, support you, shape you, pray for you and so much more. I could have started another college nursing program six months sooner, but knew that there was no comparison to the education that I would receive here. I know without a doubt that was a smart decision!

As a single mom of a four year old son, it’s extremely challenging to have the income to support a household and go to school. Being granted MEEP and Scholarships has been such an amazing blessing. I never imagined that I would be able to obtain all the help that I’ve received. As a result, I am not only succeeding for myself and my son, but for everyone that believes in my strengths, caring attitude and passion to become an excellent nurse.

The Student Finance Office is absolutely stellar. Every time I go visit, I am taken care of by caring people. I wouldn’t have been as successful in obtaining financial assistance had it not been for the dedicated personnel in this office. I used the on-line resources they have available on how to apply for scholarships and what to focus on when writing essays. They are all passionate about what they do and it truly shows. I will always remember that, “Free money is a fine thing”. Indeed it is!"

Testimonials | John"I am a third generation nurse who will graduate from Saint Francis Medical Center College of Nursing. My grandmother and my mother taught me what it truly meant to be a nurse and how one interaction, one helping hand, one extra touch, one extra second of listening can change a patient’s life forever. I chose Saint Francis to become that kind of nurse!

My own experience with outstanding nursing care began when I was in a car accident that left me paralyzed from the nipple line down. I was given a prognosis that I had a one in a million chance that I would ever walk again. Through the work of God, He lined me up to be here at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center where there is a world-class neurosurgery team and nursing staff. Over the course of nearly a month and a half I regained some feeling and movement in my lower limbs. I was on multiple floors at the hospital and on each floor I received excellent care. But I could soon recognize the difference between the nurses that had graduated from Saint Francis and those who had graduated elsewhere. Saint Francis College of Nursing nurses sincerely lived the hospital mission of serving with the greatest love and care. Each one would ask “what can I do for you today” and “can I get you anything else” before leaving. This may seem like a small thing to you but as a patient it was always appreciated to know I wasn’t being rushed through so my nurse could get to another room.

As you can see, I beat the odds. But it was a long stay in the hospital and an even longer run of physical and occupational therapy outside the hospital. This left my family in financial hardship because of the resources my recovery required.

I am especially appreciative and honored to have being selected for the MEEP, Alumni scholarship and the Matthew and Alexandra Shunick scholarship. These generous scholarships have ensured that I will be able to graduate and reach my nursing goals."
